Patient Education

dsgn_119_top.jpg

Patient education is one of the most valuable parts of the surgical experience.  You will have a more satisfying experience if you are well informed and have all of your questions answered.  Surgery is a two way street.  It is a partnership between the patient and the surgeon.  You as a patient are expected to actively participate in the surgical process which will increase your satisfaction as well as the safety of the procedure.

Ask questions:  It is a good idea to come to the office with a list of questions about your surgery or diagnosis.  It is easy to forget important questions so write them down beforehand.  We want you to have ALL of your questions answered when you walk out the door.

Know your history:  Your medical history is a key component of the office visit and it will guide you and your surgeon through the process of deciding the course of action that you will take together to address your problem or complaint.  This may mean that a different surgical approach may be better for you or that non-surgical options should be pursued first.  Please take the time to completely fill out the health history form so that we have all of the pertinent information.  If you are unsure if something should be included, please ask.  For your convenience, you can print and fill out this form before you come to the office on our "Patient Forms" page.

Know your procedure:  Our surgeons will explain to you in detail the surgical procedure with the benefits and risks involved  in a manner that is easy for you to understand.  If you do not understand something, please ask to have it explained again in a different way.  We have multiple informational resources outlining the many procedures that we perform.  Please search our website for more information about specific procedures.

Patient Educational Resources on the web:
