Welcome to Capital Surgical Clinic

With Capital Surgical Clinic, you get medical excellence without driving to Louisville or Lexington.

Medical excellence is the foundation of Capital Surgical Clinic. We are dedicated to providing you with the most advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments available in medicine today for everything from colon and gallbladder problems to breast cancer treatment, GERD and more.

Our board-certified general surgeons have helped introduce medical advances to the area that you used to have to drive 30 to 40 miles to get. They were among the first in the state of Kentucky to perform such revolutionary procedures as video-assisted thoracoscopy, laparoscopic colon resection and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair.

Our general surgeons are surgical specialists who are individually dedicated to medical excellence. They spend the time needed to answer each patient’s questions. And they give every patient an upfront and realistic assessment of the benefits and risks of their procedure. Just as importantly, our surgical specialists make a commitment to bringing their patients the latest care available in medicine today.

Our board-certified general surgeons take a conservative approach to their patients’ health. Since their interest is in doing what’s right for you, they work with your doctor to determine your best treatment options. And they will always consider nonsurgical options first, because there may be a better way to help you without surgical intervention.

Capital Surgical Clinic consistently receives referrals from doctors from Frankfort and surrounding counties who respect our knowledge and surgical expertise. We serve patients in Franklin, Anderson, Woodford, Shelby, Owen, and Scott counties.  It is the advanced care you would expect to get in Louisville or Lexington, but it is conveniently located in Frankfort.

1.  A recent study published in the General Surgery News (July 2011; Volume 38, Number 7) revealed that the National Rate of Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery is less than 10%.

2.  Highlights from the above referenced study include the following;

·         “At both low and high volume hospitals, minimally invasive surgery techniques accounted for only a small percentage of the overall colorectal procedures.  About 5% of colorectal resections at low volume hospitals were done laparoscopically and 7.3% of those at high volume hospitals.”

·         “The patients most likely to undergo minimally invasive surgery are those from higher socioeconomic groups and those with private insurance.”  “Medicaid patients rarely received laparoscopic surgery, with all but 2.3% having open surgery.”

·         “Geography also played a role.  Patients who lived in urban communities were three times more likely to undergo minimally invasive surgery than those who lived in rural areas.”

·         Dr. David Stein, a colorectal surgeon at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia states that “The take-home message is that we have an incredibly long way to go to ensure that the majority of our patients are receiving the benefits laparoscopic colectomy has to offer.”

3.  The surgeons of CSC are well trained and specialize in many laparoscopic surgeries to include minimally invasive laparoscopic colon surgery for cancer and benign disease of the colon.  We were among the first group of surgeons in Kentucky to begin performing these procedures several years ago.  While not all colon surgeries are amenable to laparoscopic surgery we offer this technique to all patients who meet the surgical criteria regardless of socio-economic status or the type of health insurance.

4.  The benefits of laparoscopic minimally invasive colo-rectal surgery are well known and are available to all our patients at CSC.

1.      Less postoperative pain

2.      Reduced pain medication

3.      Shorter length of hospital stay

4.      Smaller incisions with improved cosmetic results

5.      Faster return to solid food diet

6.      Quicker return of bowel function

7.      Quicker return to an active lifestyle

8.      Reduced wound infection rates

9.      Equal or better five year survival rates for colon cancer.

To learn more about colon cancer, please visit our colon cancer page above.  To learn more about the procedures we perform for colon cancer, please visit our procedures page above.
